ECON RE-FURB “EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS” AT BOLTON
Updated. 25.February.2010

“Exceptional” and “exceeding expectations” were two of the comments from Bolton Council’s Ralph Heyes on the quality of his latest Econ re-furbished spreader and chassis.
Ralph – assistant head of services, vehicle fleet management, added: “We were delighted with the workmanship on the vehicle and look forward to getting a further five years service out of it. We go to Econ as the service and back-up is also excellent and their people are very customer focussed and good to deal with.”
Bolton has been an Econ user for some 25 years and has an 11-strong all Econ fleet. In this latest contract a Zero C low throw spreader was removed from a Seddon Atkinson chassis, re-furbished and fitted with Spargo before being mounted on an existing Volvo chassis from which Econ had removed a refuse collection body. The Volvo chassis itself was also shotblasted before receiving anti-corrosion treatment and being re-painted.
John Martin, senior engineer manager, said: “The re-furb system works well for us and I am also impressed with the speed and efficiency of the back-up service.”
Last winter the local authority went 100% Safecote following a period of trials and the change-over has been very successful according to John. “I am delighted that we have made the move as we are not only getting very effective coverage but also achieving an overall cost saving of up to 30% in our salt purchase costs.”.
